Vampires Den
72Mission Statement of Vampires Den
What is the Vampires Den? (Updated)
This is a group of vampire costumers and vampire anime fans, we are like many other Otaku, but are interested in Japanese Vampire Movies and Anime. The point of this group is that we are here at most conventions and want to show our stuff. We have a different style of cosplay that is completely different from other types, we include not only the traditional mythos of the vampires of the European stories, but also stay true to the roots of the vampire legends.
We also include Vampires from Japanese and other legends as well into the cosplay. This including Vampire Princess Miyu and so forth.
What we are not
The group has no right to infringe on the cosplay skills of other groups, we are freely chosing the vampire cosplay as part of our wear for conventions. We do not promote nor do we condone the stances of practices in vampirism, there in by hurting other people in the pure sense of taking and drinking blood. We are to maintain a good outward appearance at all times and also do not condone violence of any kind toward or at groups of people.
Why Twilight is Cosplay is not allowed
Due to the popularity of the movie and books from the Twilight Series, we are not allowing these as cosplay, considering that they are not considered part of the European legends. Condusive to the fact that we are cosplayers and not regular readers of the popular culture materials that are outside of anime or the mythology. We apologize to any fans of Twilight who are expecting the Vampires Den to openly accept you, it is just we work with a different set of fans and also we are not trying to exclude you from join in any way shape or form, it is just we are trying to encourage you to read vampire novels outside of the popular culture. Dracula, Interview with the Vampire, and many more are much more accepting. We again apologize for this.

Twilight as Vampire Fiction?
I would say no, this is just my personal opinion, I have no love for Twilight, I won't even give it a chance simply out of the principle that the fans are ignorant of the other works out there with vampires. I have talked to a few and none of them had ever heard of Anne Rice or even Bram Stokers, which is like a total bad in my book. If people don't know the folk lore or even the past authors, then why read Twilight?
I just think that it is easier to just throw the book onto the shelf and ignore it until it gathers dust, its just another teeny-bopper fad that will die out as soon as the fandom gets tired. It is just not coming fast enough.
Vampire Anime

Hellsing
Good series, though there are times that Vampires are considered good guys, but Seras and Alucard are actually on the side of good. Alucard comes off as a gun crazy nut job who wants to have nothing more than to shoot and kill everything that is undead. He fights Nazis, evil monsters and so on. Then you have little Seras who freaks out and screams over a lot of things, including her large cannon!
Black Blood Brothers
A good anime with a good set of actions, and a character who is considered more for a vampire. Not to mention a little brother.
Trinity Blood
A good series, pretty well written and the artwork is more like something beautiful and amazing. There is a sense of watching pure art when you watch it. The story is pretty nice too.
Abel is a Crusnik, a vampire who drinks the blood of vampires, he works as a priest and works toward trying to find a peace that his brother, Cain is trying to destroy now.

Introduction
Vampires have been in a lot of different movies, some being the strange and campy, to movies that were dark and sort of scary. There are several movies one could name "Lost Boys" and "Interview with the Vampire". There is a sort of obsession in the mind of most people about vampires, some who even believe that vampires can be real, it isn't so far off.
The Vampires Den often falls back to hte idea that vampries are considered part of our culture, as part of the everyday and common, but not so common at times. We still as costumers have to live with the reality that vampires may not be real, but we love to put on the fangs and play pretend for a few hours a month. For those who are the real deal or believe they are the real deal and read this, I am not trying to say you are not or you are, just go with who you are.
Many of the things that Vampires Den wants to be telling people is that we do not, I repeat do not condone bleeding or asking for a donor if you are really into that kind of thing. We are costumers, that's the first thing we are going to tell and we are going to be stating that as things go along.
Brief History of Vampires on the Silver Screen
Everyone has heard of Dracula, Lost Boys, Interview with the Vampire in some cases, unless one was living in a cave for awhile. Vampires are part of the era of the silver screen, with the advent of the motion picture and the stories of Nosferatu and all the way to 1931 Dracula staring Bella Logosi who was coining the phrase in his Hungarian accent that made women almost fall in love, "Children of the night, what beautiful music they make."
From there, we became part of the culture of costumers who modelled their ideals from these, not only from manga, but also from the idea of the prefect vampire as being almost beautiful and not entirely monsterious.
The Vampire movies have changed, but the mentality remains, the cool almost civilized vampires, the ones who walk out would sweep a woman or man off their feet and drain their blood. This is almost a romantic ideal that was placed in the minds of many young people and also even today.
There have been some negative problems that came from this in some historical sense, in the 1920s, Lon Chany did an infamous movie, which I would love own, "London After Dark," which was a sudeovampire film. Lon Chany plays a detective who dons the role of a vampire to catch a killer. After seeing the movie, a young man killed his girlfriend claiming he was a vampire, this later caused many people at first to not entirely embrace the idea of ever filming a vampire film. Though later the kid was found to be mentally insane, the film was still banned in England to this day.
Even with the bad press at times, vampires are still considered one of the favorites of directors and even writers.
Comicbooks, Manga
The issues of Strange Tales still haunts me, a vampire in it was amazing, it was Dracula, for the longest time as a child, I remember a time when there were no vampires, no not really. My father had once said that vampires and werewolf comics were taken off the shelves in the 1950s and thus ruined many writers' lives and caused great deal of pain with the censoring of comics.
While writing this, I was wondering about that, the Vampires Den isn't so exciting if there were no vampries, huh? Well, this is the reason I am putting this together, the history has to be told. There is a thing that comicbook writers and publishers will do, they will send it to a sort of comicbook assocation board who will hold the chopping block. These are types of censoring, vampires didn't start to come back until around the 1978 to present, there were almost NO vampire comics, or even werewolf comics. This was a horrible incident in comicbook history and hopefully it won't be repeated.
The current and more interesting thoughts on this were the first time I saw a "Vampire Lestat" comic at a comicbook store in Denver, Colorado. Then I found more comics with the idea of vampires, even one called Vamperella which is still in running today. Even Spider Man met a vampire, and there is also Blade, so to be honest, even vampire costumers find these fun.
Vampires have also caught on in Japan, with such manga and stories like "Vampire Hunter D", "Vampire Knight," "Vampire princess Miyu," and many more titles that would take so long to name. They took a spin on the vampire fad and made it their own making fans as they went along.
